The Open String invites you to enjoy deeply engaging quartet music played up close by violin virtuosos in a gorgeous artist loft at a former Brewery complex in the Mission district in San Francisco. All proceeds from this event benefit youth orchestras and young musicians in developing areas who need string instruments and maintenance. We provide these directly to vetted recipients through our organization on a project-by-project basis.
This is a unique event for up to 50 attending guests in an intimate salon atmosphere that brings together Baroque sensitivity with Bohemian flair at the heart of San Francisco's tech epicenter.
Gilles Colliard, French violin soloist and conductor of the Toulouse Chamber Orchestra, will be accompanied by several members of the San Francisco symphony orchestra, including cellist Amos Yang, as they perform selections from Bach, Beethoven, Cherubini, Dvorak, Paganini, and others.
Through a few solo pieces, the musicians will also personally showcase the Guadagnini Quartet, a unique set of instruments crafted by modern violinmaker and The Open String founder Robert Brewer Young, who will give a brief presentation of our mission and our work.
There will be seating, a cash bar, and fine chocolates.
The venue is a private loft home in a light industrial zone in the Mission district located at 1 Enterprise Street, San Francisco, a not-so-small alley off Folsom near 16th street. The gray 3-story building has crenalations like a medieval castle and the loft is on the top floor.
